Journey 2 Movie Overview
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a 2012 American science fiction adventure film directed, written, and co-produced by Peter Jackson. It is the sequel to the 2009 film Journey to the Center of the Earth and the second in a planned trilogy of films based on Brian Aldiss’ 1953 novel of the same name. Production began in early 2011 at Wellington Studios in New Zealand with additional filming taking place in Queensland, Australia. The film was released on June 11, 2012, in conventional and IMAX theaters worldwide.
The story follows Wayne and Vanessa as they journey to find out what happened to their son who was kidnapped by unknown people thousands of years earlier. They are aided on their journey by Professor Armitage (Ian McKellen), who has discovered that the island’s dormant volcano is about to awaken again.
